Luke Carmichael Valmadrid is a second-year medical student with PRIME-Health Equity at the University of California San Diego. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Violin-Performance and Blochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MPH concentrated in health equity, social justice, and human rights from the University of North Carolina – Chapel HIll. He is seriously pursuing several research interests. As a classical violist, he has performed for the Mimir Chamber Music Festival and Stanford Chamber Music Seminar, and has held roles as the violist of the Perlman Ensemble at UW-Madison and as a North Carolina Student Fellow with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle.

His first chapbook, ‘After a good day, through the night, was published with Penumbra Press. He enjoys biking, running, cooking, IU’s prolific body of work, and playing video games with faraway friends.
