Kimanh Truong-Muñoz (she/her/hers) is a member of the First Cohort of First Wave. She was born and raised in Chicago and is the proud daughter of Vietnamese refugees. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a First Wave hip-hop scholarship recipient, she started her teaching career in San Antonio, Texas where she taught middle school English Language Arts and Social Studies. During her first year of teaching, she received the San Antonio Independent School District’s Rising Star Teacher Award. 
She holds a Masters degree from the University of the Pacific’s Organizational Learning and Effectiveness program with a focus on Educational Entrepreneurship and Innovation and has over a decade of experience in education and non-profits. As a proud educator of color and first generation college-graduate, she believes young people are the leaders we’ve been waiting for and is committed to ensuring all schools are student-centered and joyful places to be. In 2021, she opened KIPP Stockton Middle School and is proud to be leading as Founding Principal. When not at work in the beautiful city of Stockton, she is spending time with her husband and keeping up with her rapidly growing daughter Mai!
