1) First Wave Spoken Word and Urban Arts Learning Community :
A totally unique & vibrant environment for first-year
students, opening in the fall of '07, it will bring together
young poetic voices from throughout the U.S. to live in
a dynamic, multicultural university community—the first
on a college campus in the country.
2) Spoken Word in the Schools :
Facilitated by a teacher & a leading Madison poet-mentor, the high school clubs are an avenue for artistic self-expression & academic growth.
3) Summer Teacher Institute : A summer session taught
jointly by OMAI staff and School of
Education faculty, "The Art and Science of Using Spoken Word and Hip-Hop
in the Classroom and in the Community" is an annual institute that shows
teachers and youth mentors the history, culture, and educational
potential of the urban arts and how to integrate them into
their curriculum.
4) Cipher Zone Radio Show : Broadcasting every Saturday
night on WORT, 89.9 FM, the Cipher Zone plays uplifting
hip hop, spoken word, & conscious music, connecting the
campus, community, and region by promoting homegrown
artists and events in the community.
