
OBJECTIVES:
Institute participants will learn proven, hands-on techniques that will help them to develop lesson plans and strengthen their course study, as well as create a platform from which they will understand the scope of hip-hop history, culture and politics. The night programming consists of an all-star cast of lecturers and performers who will synthesize the day trainings with effective strategies and cutting-edge multicultural educational approaches.

| For participants taking the course for one credit, they will be required to: | |
| - Attend ALL course sessions - Read ALL required readings, as well as in class participation - Create and Present one lesson plan that utilizes either hip-hop lyrics, or spoken word piece. Lesson plan must follow attached template, and include 1 source material for comparison, i.e. a piece of literature, historical document, poem, literary device/technique, etc. |

| For participants taking course for two credits, they will be required to: | |
| - Complete all of the above - Create and Present lesson plan must utilize 2-3 source materials for cross comparison. |

| For participants taking course for 3 credits, they will be required to: | |
| - Complete all of the above - Utilize attached template to conduct observational data/qualitative research that will be used to complete a course guide that collects and synthesizes each teaching session presented over the course of the week. This project will be done in groups/research teams. |
